Cure For Stretch Marks: Is It Possible?

cure for stretch marksCure for stretch marks. Many folks (especially women) have been seeking for this ultimate stretch marks solution for a long time now. So, the million dollar question is: Are there cures for stretch marks? Is it really possible, as claimed by many dermatologists?
First, what are stretch marks?
Stretch marks, or striae are just skin scarring. It happens when the dermis, or the middle layer of your skin that maintains shape and elasticity, has been overly stretched. So, the connective fibers in the skin break, disrupting the collagen production, and resulting in scarring or stretch marks. These stretch marks often start off as reddish or purplish in color and then become glossy skin that appears streaked in silver or white.
Stretch marks are linked with obesity, pregnancy, puberty, extreme weight loss and short-term weight gain from bodybuilding and other physical activities.
It can happen to anyone, both men and women. Ordinary folks and celebrities. I am sure youhave seen shocking pictures of rich gorgeous female celebrities with stretch marks featured in tabloids or celebrity blogs.
Stretch marks can occur on various parts of their bodies, which includes the abdominal area, thighs, hips, breasts, upper arms, or lower back.
So, what about cure for stretch marks? From my own personal experience, also from my female friends and relatives, plus what I have learnt from my skin doctor, there is no so-called one ultimate cure for stretch marks for every one. It all depends on various factors like: individual's skin type/tone, the severity of your stretch marks, the "age" of stretch marks and the way you treat them.
That's the reason why, different people would suggest different ways of treating these unsightly stretch marks. My personal suggestion is, if you are seeking for the so-called cures for stretch marks, find out more from a reliable dermatologist.
By the way, there are several popular treatments for stretch mark removal in the market today. Again, I would like to stress, the degree of success with stretch mark removal treatment varies from individual to individual. Remember the source of stretch marks is not on the surface of your skin as they appear to be. It is actually in your dermis or the second layer of your skin.
Basically there two stretch mark removal treatment options are:
1. Natural Stretch Mark Removal
2. Surgical Stretch Mark Removal
Natural way of removing stretch marks means non-surgical. It is definitely cheaper than surgical method, but it is not as effective in removing stretch marks or striae as the former option.
Among the natural stretch mark removal methods, which include creams, lotions, proper diet and exercise. The stretch mark creams or lotions can only reduce or fade stretch marks to a certain extent. But it cannot completely remove the stretch marks. Remember it is not a cure for stretch marks.
Having proper diet can help to reduce the formation of stretch marks. Eat food which is enriched in iron, vitamins A and C. As these nutritions contribute to good skin health.
You are also advised to drink plenty of water. As adequate water can keep your skin soft and less likely to develop stretch marks. Remember try to reduce caffeine intake as it is said to increase the risk of stretch marks.
Surgical stretch mark removal is the most effective option for permanent elimination of ugly stretch marks. There are five types of surgical stretch mark removal:
1. Dermabrasion
2. Chemical Peels
4. Laser surgery
5.Tummy Tuck.
Dermabrasion or surgical skin planing is a cosmetic medical procedure done by dermatological surgeon in which the surface of the epidermis of the skin is removed by abrasion or sanding. This abrasive or planing action enhances skin contour when the new layer of skin replaces the treated scarred skin.
Chemical peel treatment is also known as chemexfoliation or derma-peeling. This technique can improve and smooth the texture of the stretch marks. It uses a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off.
Blue light therapy can only reduce the appearance of stretch marks, but it cannot remove them just like the cream or lotion. It works by applying a photo-sensitive gel to the skin, and then a series of intense light bursts are emitted or shot over the stetch mark areas.
Laser surgery is a surgical procedure in which a laser is used to remove areas of the affected skin with stretch marks. New skin will replace the removed scarred areas. The procedure is said to be safe with very low incidence of side effects.
For mothers having excess abdominal skin scarred with stretch marks, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is currently the only most effective surgical procedure. What it does is it tighten the abdominal muscles and removes excess skin under the belly button. Unsightly stretch marks below the naval are completely removed together with the excess skin. The surgical incisions are usually made low in the abdomen.
